I own an Illy x6 and it came with a sampler of illy ese pods. When those ran out I researched online and ordered these pods. First of all the pod is not tightly packed and has a looseness which makes the fit in the holder improper. As a result sometimes the illy machine keeps on going and overflows the normal quantity which an espresso cup would hold.



Secondly the flavor body and aroma are diffuse and not good for espresso. If you are making a cappuccino you will likely not taste much difference. I do not recommend Lavazza for espresso on an illy machine.

The quality is excellent. It worked well in my machine. My problem is with the taste. It is very light and sweet. My lattes tasted like sweetened milk. If you don't like much coffee taste, these are the way to go. I returned mine.

Fresh pods smelled like Folgers. Stale pods smelled like stale Folgers. They make okay espresso.

Love these Lavazza pods. Good crema , mellow chocolate taste. Brand new Gaggia classic being used for espresso. I have found that tamping the pod and slightly wetting makes a great pull with wonderful results. Repeated attempts with grinding my own beans have not come close to ease, simplicity and taste of these ESE pods.

I expected better from Lavazza having been introduced to it in Rome last year. In perspective, I usually grind my espresso beans (Brazil Sweet Blue is my favorite) immediately before brewing and I always buy beans that have been roasted no more than 1 week ago. This obviously skew my taste toward fresh product and these pods are definitely not that. Convenient, though.

I started out using the Lavazza ground espresso because these pods seemed a little pricey, but I could not be happier that I finally tried these! They are super easy, and much neater than grounds. If you have a semi-automatic and hate the mess and the cleanup then this ESE pod will be a gift heaven sent. Lavazza does make great coffee by the fine balance of roast and aroma. It is a widely used brand across Europe for a reason it appeals to massive tastes. I would recommend this procduct whoever likes their esspresso a bit on the sweet side.

Although I've never had Lavazza before, I've certainly had a lot of espresso in Europe and in Italy where Lavazza is supposed to be very big.



These beans barely rate as what I would call a "medium" roast. Quite blonde in color. They also lack body and intensity of flavor, with high acidity (and I suspect very high caffeine as well).



If you like a very mild, light roast, and low intensity flavor for your espresso, you might like this stuff. Otherwise, I would look elsewhere.

This is my favorite coffee in the whole world! I have had a Starbucks Barista Espresso Machine for almost five years (a gift from my husband which I thought a foolish extravagance at the time). To do it justice, I tried many different coffees, read a book about coffee beans and coffee types, experimented with specialty coffees and coffee drinks. And finally discovered - this Lavazza coffee is the best! It smells wonderful, develops an excellent crema, has no bitter after taste, is a lovely rich coffee all by itself, just bare and black - no sugar, no milk, no extra fluff - just superb coffee. To make drinks with lots of milk (lattes for example), you need a stronger bite to your coffee (like Starbucks or Petes), but if you just want the coffee, black, then there is no better espresso than this one.

 "Rich and flavorful - even from the "wrong" pot!" 2010-06-23

I found a brick of Lavazza Crema e Gusto at a local shop some months ago, and tried it in my stovetop espresso maker. For some reason I thought the grind was what I needed (it *does* have a picture of a stovetop machine on it!) but the grind is really very fine, more like what a professional-type machine needs.



But this works even in my Bialetti Brikka 4-Cup Stovetop Percolator stovetop machine, and generates a beautiful crema. The Brikka really wants a slightly coarser grind, so I have to be *very* careful to put in the coffee with a light touch, and not to pack it down even a tiny bit.



The flavor, as others have written, is very rich without being too dark-roasted, with lovely chocolatey notes. Bitterness can come if I overfill the maker so that the coffee is packed too hard, which causes boiling and burning. So care must be taken when using a stovetop maker. But it's truly worth it, because it gives such delicious coffee.

It is not have a bitter taste as a few have suggested. I always use a melitta cup for making any espresso coffee and this one is just delicious. I checked my ph strip and it does not register as acid. It doesn't bother my stomach at all and I am super sensitive to anything acid. American coffee I have a hard time tolerating; the Italian and Kenya coffees that are dark roast espresso are thought by some people via their processing techniques and quality to be alkaline. It makes the American coffee look like junk for how the body responds and the taste. Once you have had this coffee you won't want American coffee anymore.



In case anyone is wondering what a melitta cup is, it is a cone made from plastic or ceramic (mine is ceramic) and it has a hole at the bottom. I adjust the coffee filter to fit it and then put the espress coffee in it and then pour my hot water from the tea kettle into it. I add a little nut milk into the coffee and I am ready to enjoy a wonderful taste. It beats dealing with a coffee maker any day. Each person in the family can have their own melitta cup as it is so quick to do.

I received my order of four (4) packs of this coffee yesterday and today, upon opening the bricks that were shrink-wrapped together, I noticed that one of the individual packages was clearly not vacuum sealed. Sure enough, at the bottom of the package, I could see a slice from what was most likely a straight razor used to open a box. Hmm...out with that package. (I should add that the shipping box was was in perfect condition.)



Understandably, this type of thing can happen with packaging / stocking. Still, I'm a little disappointed that on my first order, only 3 out of 4 packages are any good.

We just got this yesterday and had some this morning. It is probably one of the best coffees I have ever tasted! It is perfectly balanced with a nice round taste and feel that is full bodied. No acidity at all, just creamy goodness. There is a wonderful taste nuance involved that is characteristic of a fine wine. I can not believe the price for this! I spent for 2 pounds less than what I have paid for 1 pound of other coffees and enjoyed this every bit as much or more. A definite keeper for my morning java.

Although I am a fan of Lavazza espresso, I found this blend extremely harsh with very high acidity which wreaked havoc with my stomach. I am stuck with 9 bricks now (bought a case) and will have to find someone who really likes this blend.

I am trying many different types of coffee, and I don't particularly enjoy this type. Some people might but not me. It has a sour taste if you drink it black which is not too pleasant. The beans give off a roasted almost burnt peanut smell. The grind is very dry looking.

When I took the advice of reading the packaging I made milk based coffees. Its a much different coffee then. There is still the sour initial taste, but the after taste is very sweet and caramely.

If you want a really dark deep southern italian espresso this is not the beans for you. This is a northern Italian espresso that is typical of what you get in Roma or Milano. The bags from Amazon come reasonably fresh and the free delivery is hard to beat. The coffee is consistent batch to batch, a 25 second extraction gives a reliable italian style espresso with a good machine. I use an exobar office lever with a mazzer mini mill and go through about 5 lbs a month. Kids and wife love it. I like it for mass market. PEET's espresso is better if you want a darker/stronger espresso, but commercially this is the best I have found

Fine coffee. I alternate between Larry's organic single source beans and this coffee. This coffee generates more crema--probably due to the inclusion of robusta beans. Nice mild-ish flavor without sour notes in my PID-controlled Silvia.
